Do you want to display Google Calendar on your TV, to make it easy for everyone in the household to see the month’s upcoming events? If you own an Android TV, you might be surprised to find that there isn’t a native Google Calendar integration.
Nevertheless, it’s still fairly straightforward to show Google Calendar on Android TV thanks to third-party apps. Here’s how.
While there are differences between the two systems, these instructions should work whether your TV runs Android TV or Google TV.
What Is Panda Calendar?
For this guide, we’ll use Panda Calendar, a low-cost app that displays all events from your Google account in any given month. It’s clear and easy to use, which makes it perfect for displaying on a TV.
However, Panda Calendar is purposefully simple. You can’t use it to add new calendar events—you’ll need to use another device for that, then Panda Calendar will sync. It also doesn’t have advanced features like weather or news.
If you find it unsuitable, try alternatives like Dashboard Screen Saver or Mango Display.
How to Install Panda Calendar
To install Panda Calendar on your Android TV, go to the home screen, select Apps from the top bar, and open the Google Play Store app. Search for and install Panda Calendar.
If it doesn’t appear, it may not be compatible with your specific version of Android TV. In this case, you could try sideloading the app on your Android TV (which involves manually downloading the APK file).
How to Use Panda Calendar
Once you’ve loaded Panda Calendar, select the change icon at the top-left of the screen, then select Sign in with Google and enter your Google credentials.
You’ll now see the calendar interface, populated with your events. use the Back and Next buttons to move between the months.
Select the change icon again to customize settings. Here, you can toggle individual calendars on/off and change the appearance of event listings. The available font sizes are slightly disappointing; larger sizes would have been welcome to support those with poor eyesight, or if your TV is mounted far away.
Give Your Smart Devices a Boost With Google Calendar
Millions of people rely on Google Calendar, so it’s satisfying to see it beamed to an Android TV with such ease.
If you have a Google Nest smart speaker, there are even more ways to level up your Google Calendar usage. Nest can directly access your Calendar schedule and have the day’s itinerary read out to you as part of a daily routine.
For owners of the Nest Hub, you could even use the embedded display to visualize Google Calendar events rather than a TV.
