Wolverine’s New Game Reveals Combat and Powers

Marvel’s Wolverine launches on PlayStation 5 on September 15, 2026. The upcoming Insomniac title emphasizes aggressive combat and a deep customization suite. The developer revealed new features alongside a gameplay trailer, outlining how players will fight enemies and shape Logan’s appearance.

Fighting style and progression

Combat centers on Logan’s claws, kicks, and critical strikes. Players can equip Special Techniques during fights, including the Tornado Spin, Knee Breaker, and Spiral Strike. The Rage system offers three tiers focused on survivability and fury. Players can use this resource to endure dangerous encounters or unleash brutal attacks.

Beyond the core moves, Logan can absorb bullets and expand parry windows through Adaptations. These upgrades improve his effectiveness in battle. Exploration features Nightmare Doors and material crates. Players can find whisky bottles that trigger flashbacks, revealing forgotten memories. The game includes a Nightmare Cabin with New Game Plus, Mission Replay, and exclusive level caps.

Customization and suits

Players unlock suits inspired by Wolverine’s history. This includes versions from Weapon X, Old Man Logan, Ultimate Wolverine, and Patch. Casual outfits are also available, such as a tank top and leather jacket. Players can toggle cowls and hats on or off.

Claw designs vary by style, featuring bone, notched, curved, reflective, and angled options. Material crates unlock these items. The game encourages collecting suits and claws to match a player’s preferred look.

Accessibility and content controls

Insomniac added more than 100 accessibility features. High Contrast visuals, English audio description, and Global Game Speed are included. Strong Haptic Signals provide better feedback. The game also offers controls for violence and language. Separate options adjust dynamic blood, dismemberment, and adult language filters.

Beyond the core options, the High Contrast mode reassigns color palettes to ensure critical gameplay elements stand out for players with visual impairments. The English audio description narrates on‑screen action, making cutscenes and environmental storytelling accessible to those who rely on auditory cues. Global Game Speed lets players fine‑tune the overall pacing, which can help those who need more time to react during intense combat sequences.

Strong Haptic Signals leverage the DualSense controller’s advanced vibration capabilities, delivering distinct tactile sensations for each type of attack, successful parry, or Rage activation. This subtle feedback helps players develop a physical sense of timing, especially useful for mastering the timing‑intensive parry windows introduced by Adaptations.

Content filters give granular control over the presentation of mature elements. Players can choose to mute or soften the visual impact of blood splatter, limit graphic dismemberment, and replace strong language with milder alternatives, ensuring the experience aligns with personal comfort levels without compromising the core gameplay loop.

The Nightmare Cabin acts as a hub for post‑campaign content, featuring New Game Plus with exclusive Techniques and level caps that reward replayability. Mission Replay lets players revisit completed objectives to improve performance or experiment with different builds, while Nightmare Challenges present time‑limited trials that test mastery of combat mechanics. Photo Mode, available from day one, offers a suite of tools for capturing detailed screenshots, including adjustable camera angles, filters, and the ability to pose Logan in any unlocked suit or claw configuration.

Despite the focus on visceral combat, the narrative emphasizes teamwork. Logan teams up with Jean Grey and members of Team X to stop Bolivar Trask. They face threats like Omega Red and Deathstrike, who also appear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This mix of brutal action and cooperative storytelling suggests a balanced approach to the character’s legacy.
